I had to leave the carrier out after transporting them so they could just hang out in them. I wish I had bought two.
It’s important to note that the bag’s dimensions are larger than a few of the major airlines list as acceptable on their websites, so I suggest checking there. I flew on United and, at the time of writing this review, they specifically noted that soft sided carriers can exceed the size restriction slightly since they are flexible. I had no issues with United and the bag when we traveled.
I give it 5 stars because of the space it gives my pup and the convenient pockets, but I will say that the over the shoulder strap is a little too short so you likely won’t use it.
Our cat did escape the bag a couple times as she was able to unzip one of the side zippers. Thankfully this happened at home and not I. The road or outside. She is a bit of a Houdini apparently lol. The solution is to tie the zippers down with zip ties or rubber band just in case.
Seems durable but only time will tell. I do like the colors of the bag. It’s a good place to put your cat if you need to restrict her a bit too in case she is too wild at night and you need to get some sleep. I don’t feel bad doing this in this bag especially if you unzip all the expandable pockets so she has a good deal of room to stretch out in.
Highly recommend this bag.
Had zero issues when traveling with Delta, but make sure that your aircraft has the necessary leg room/space to fit (consult with your airline)
Without using any of the expanded sides is a standard 18” x 11” x 11”.
When traveling with pets as carry on, most of the time they have to be inside the carrier (unless a per relief area is found), for this specific case, is a positive benefit to have the chance to expand the carrier, I usually expanded all of the spaces when waiting for a plane during layovers. Dog was comfortable, able to stretch, move around.
I recommend it 100% based on my experience which was very good.
She is about 18 pounds and we never thought that it would fall apart. We carted her through 4 different airports on our journey. It was very sturdy. Letting her have a little more freedom when we unzipped the windows, was awesome!
I just wish that it had removable metal rods on the top of the carrier so I could squish it a little better. Southwest has a rather small compartment under the feet. Thankfully, my entire family is flying, so we will get the entire row and can place the carrier under whichever seat has the most room.
It fits snugly under the seat, but the ability to open up the sides to give my pup more room was wonderful. He stretched out and slept the whole flight!
It is not the most comfortable for you (the human) to carry if your pet is on the heavier side. My back was sore for days afterwards. But I think that’s to be expected when carrying a 22lb moving animal with just a shoulder strap.
Another thing - my dog was able to figure out that if he dug enough at the spot where the zipper pulls were, he could move them enough to get his nose out and then use that to open the door! He did this while we were on the plane which was stressful for me! However, this is easy to work around by just making sure the zipper pulls are up top where the pet can’t dig at them and also by just not letting your pet dig.
I bought 6 different carriers through Amazon to find the one that would work best, and this one won hands down!
We were also recently evacuated because of a fire and these unfolded out of the closet quickly and trapping the kitties seems to be easier in these for some reason. Worth the purchase, I'm very happy with this. Gizmo, not so much.
The only reason I'm not going 5 stars, is because I have to lay a piece of fleece down in the car when I extend the sides. Two of the sides have soft walls, but the other two are simply mesh. This is for air flow, but also my pigs will craw out onto the mesh and pee through it. So I either lay a fleece down on the seat, or inside the carrier. A tad annoying, but otherwise a great travel option for my rodent buddies!
I've used this for vet trips and to socialize two kittens and it has worked great. The fold out sides allow the animals to move about without being trapped in a small cube, which ideally would be good for travel as well given you have enough space to leave it expanded in the car. The interior is very soft and it seems to be quite comfortable.
The bag does meet airport requirements and will fit underneath the seat, even with one end expanded. We flew our 24-pound mini goldendoodle. It was a tight squeeze without the side expanded since she does have tall legs. She was able to turn around easily, but did not stand completely when the bag was closed. Overall she looked very comfortable sleeping/laying in the bag on the flight,
especially with the expanded side.
Just an FYI to those flying their pets for the first time - American Airlines is extremely strict. They will UPHOLD that the pet needs to be able to stand fully upright and turn around, regardless of the pet fitting/looking comfortable in the bag. They will not allow you fly. Additionally, they will ask for your ID and ban you from flying with pets for future flights. Needless to say, we won’t be flying with American any longer. Our pet was allowed on Delta with hardly any issues. They did ask to see if she fit in the bag, but they did allow us to expand it upon inspection and saw that she was comfortable. Way better service and much more understanding than AA.
Allegiant's flight to and from FLL to ORF, window seat, is what we flew and this carrier does NOT fit under the seat. It's a tad too long/wide and too tall. Not sure if the Siivton carrier I have would have fit under but I wanted the extra inch or two since I had two puppers in there. IDK how the other person smooshed theirs down but my bag's edges wouldn't bend and I'm not exactly a weakling lol. I was never stopped or questioned for measuring the bag, I think they just eyeballed it and most of the staff were too busy awwing over the pups. Only one flight attendant read out the rules to me (which I was aware) and asked what seat I was in bc the window seat had smaller space she said. I told her our first flight I made it work ok. So if you can see the pics, I have no legroom, but I was ok with it considering i'm short, it was only 2 hours, and still not as bad as the pups being in a bag together. Wouldn't recommend this for someone taller who needs their legroom. But since this did not fit under the seat, I was able to expand the other long side for them to spread out a bit more too. It was just a little tricky to close back up.
All in all though, I recommend this bag, it's sturdy, lots of mesh openings and options for expansion. Two side storage pockets for their treats and leashes. And this bag slides/pops nicely into my HPZ travel lite stroller for quick getaway out of the bridge and gate if anyone else has a stroller like me. Once I get out of the way, I let the pups into their stroller and hang this carrier on the stroller handlebars.
For real though, this carrier is built well and seems like it will hold up for a while. The interior sides of the kennel snap on and off to give them that extra space. Comes with a shoulder strap as well as the little handles on top. The bedding isn't very soft (a piece of fuzzy fabric over cardboard), so I gave my cats a towel to lay on too and that was perfect.
The sides zip and unzip really easily.
Highly recommend!
- they’re super easy to clean if someone has an accident. The bottom soft area comes off and can be separated from the hard plastic to throw in the wash. They fully unzip to flat and the vinyl interior is easy to rinse/wipe clean.
- they fit pretty well under most major airline seats, but they’re a tight fit on smaller planes. Aisle and middle seats work best because you have the full use of the foot area.
- the expansion feature is fantastic for layovers and car rides!!
- the pockets are super handy and can fit quite a bit
- the clip in feature is great for claustrophobic kitties on car rides
There’s one major flaw…
These carriers have CRAP airflow when they’re all closed up - like the “normal” way you use them when you’re in motion. Our tabby and Maine coon both have trouble getting too hot when they’re closed up - so be aware of that and plan accordingly. A cold water bottle or cooling mat of some kind is essential.
That said, I would absolutely recommend these and would buy them again!
